WHO AM I PROFESSIONALLY AND MORE IMPORTANTLY PERSONALLY?
My Professional Image
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in individual, couples and family therapy. With over 25 years experience as a marriage and family therapist. As a graduate of George Fox University specializing in Couples Counseling, I am currently serving as a private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients in my Forest Grove, Hillsboro and West Linn offices. In additon to my area of expertise, I have a particuliar passion for the Christian community, however, laboring out of an essence of spiritual identity I bring my personhood to bear on the processes in the counseling office, rather than using the scripture as a conforming criteria for my client. In reality I geniunely desire coming along side ANYONE committed to and invested in positive growth and has priviledged me the opportunity to join in their journey of change.
In addition to being a superb(I think, anyway) relationship therapist, I have also served as an adjunct professor in schools ,such as; George Fox University(graduate program in Marriage and Family Therapy), Warner Pacific, PSU, as well as presented at conferences and to general audences speaking on the topics of relationships, depression, neurobiological science and attachment , addictions, depression, anxiety, and parenting.
I am an interactive, solution-focused therapist. My therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. I integrate complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding-thats the Christain, spiritual essense part- I challenge each individual to discover and build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing thiers goals in life-thats the professional training part. Simply put I would describe my work as a "divine calling coupled with professional training".
My Personal Saga
"You are not alone in your pain- I have been there. I've come from a childhood of abuse, anger and addiction, learning how to cope, in other than functioal ways, at a very young age. I quit school as a sophomore in high school and joined the Marine Corps, mostly to escape the abuse at home. I was sent to Vietnam and returned a scarred individual, both internally and externally. Hooked on drugs and dissillutioned with life..... I found myself discharged into a life I was not prepared to live. An alcohoholic and drug addict, with a major "I don't give a d---" attitude, I actually experienced a drug induced psychotic break and ran from people I believed were out to shoot me, for 6 months, at 19 years old, fresh out of combat."
"I married at 23 and divorced at 27, and during the divorce process I met Jesus Christ and things began to change. My life began to reflect power, and, for the first time in my life, real peace, joy, and a new sense of purpose and direction. I remarried some years later, and at 36, with the support of Jesus Christ, family, and friends, I finished high school. I then went on to earn undergraduate and graduated degrees, as well as maintaining a successful private practise, and laboring together with my wife to support and raise 8 of the neatest kids I know.... though it hasn't been without challenges. I have suffer a car accident which almost killed me, a dehabilitating back injury, and recenting(2007)a brain tumor, inwhich brain surgery was the only option."
" Recovery has been slow, with multiple set backs and impairments. By Gods grace, I have experienced a journey of pain, but ,also, one of survival and, have, once again, learned how to persevere and demostrate resilience in the presence of struggle and in the pursuit of emotional and spiritual fulfillment. I so much want to have the honor of helping you on your journey as well. Please give me a call."
